Towing & Mobile Mechanic

Position Summary ??

Big Rig Towing is seeking a dependable and mechanically skilled Towing & Mobile Mechanic to join our team in Eau Claire, WI.

?? Pay starting at $25+ per hour, with higher pay available depending on experience.

This position combines professional towing with light and medium-duty mobile repair services. You'll respond to roadside breakdowns, perform on-site diagnostics and repairs when possible, and safely transport vehicles that require additional service. We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, working independently, and providing outstanding customer service during stressful situations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities ??

• Respond to towing, roadside assistance, and mobile mechanic service calls throughout the Eau Claire area.
• Safely operate flatbeds, wheel lifts, wreckers, and service vehicles.
• Diagnose basic mechanical, electrical, and starting system issues in the field.
• Perform mobile repairs including batteries, alternators, starters, belts, hoses, tires, fuel delivery, jump starts, lockouts, and other roadside services.
• Determine when a vehicle can be repaired on-site or safely transported to the shop.
• Properly load, secure, transport, and unload customer vehicles and equipment.
• Communicate professionally with dispatch, customers, law enforcement, and repair facilities.
• Complete service tickets and required documentation accurately.
• Perform daily inspections of assigned truck, tools, and equipment.
• Keep service vehicles clean, organized, and fully stocked.
• Follow all DOT regulations, company policies, and roadside safety procedures.
• Represent Big Rig Towing with professionalism on every call.

Qualifications ??

• Previous towing, roadside assistance, automotive repair, or diesel mechanic experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Clean driving record preferred.
• CDL is a plus but not required.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
• Ability to work independently while making safe decisions in the field.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in all Wisconsin weather conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physical work including bending, kneeling, climbing, and operating towing equipment.

Preferred Skills ??

• Experience operating tow trucks, flatbeds, wheel lifts, or wreckers.
• Knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines.
• Experience with commercial trucks, trailers, and fleet vehicles.
• Hydraulic, air brake, and electrical troubleshooting experience.
• Welding or fabrication experience is a plus.
• Experience using towing dispatch software.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation.
